Cultural Event Reflective Essay: Mexican Art Exhibition

I attended an exhibition at the cultural event. It was called Mexican Modernity 20th Century paintings from the Zapanta Collection. Zapanta’s Mexican Art Collection features some of today’s most important Mexican artists. This exhibition will take you through the political and social history of Mexico during the 20th century. It features many artists whose works remind us of the importance to express ourselves artistically in times of conflict or change. The event provided me with a good emotional connection. I learned so much about the artists through the exhibition, as well as the struggles they had to overcome. Philanthropy On Vacation, a painting by David Alfaro Siqueiros caught my attention. The meaning of this painting and the story behind it caught my attention. This painting depicts social injustice, comparing how the three upper class figures known as carnivalesque, show little regard to the mother who is a peasant and her child. I find the story of David, an artist who is well-known, fascinating.

David, an artist, was involved in politics. He was a soldier in the Mexican Revolution. He was also involved in the Spanish civil struggle against fascism. David’s political activism resulted in him being jailed several times and then exiled. Additionally, this event was categorized as a fine-arts event since it included visual art such as paintings, drawings or watercolors. It also featured sculptures and other forms of art. The most important aspect of the event was its meaning. All the paintings were beautiful and conveyed a message. Jesus Guerrero Galvan created an oil-on-canvas painting depicting a boy resting on a piece of volcanic rock. Jesus often used lyrical realism as well as a sense spirituality to his work. He created the oil on can canvas painting “The boy sleeps with his eyes closed” that showed him sleeping on a warm, volcanic rock. The painting The thorn was by Raul Annuiano. Another oil-on-canvas painting that had meaning was the one called The thorn. Raul’s painting showed Maria, an elderly woman with a thorn under her foot. Maria used the artist knife in order to remove the thorn. This painting is a symbol of the ability to quickly overcome difficulties caused by native people. This cultural event has a positive impact on society. It shows how artists from the exhibition have had to overcome many difficulties in their lives but continued their passion for art, and they achieved great success in their lives. This exhibition shows that if you are passionate about something, it doesn’t matter how difficult the times get. Great things will come in the end. This exhibit informs visitors about the political backgrounds of many of the artists and offers a tranquil environment for those who walk through it.

I found the Mexican Modernity exhibition to be very informative. This is why I recommend it to anyone. A person will not only see artworks and sculptures, but they will also be able learn about the artist. It was educational and fun, and I would definitely go to another culture exhibition. I believed that cultural exhibitions were boring.
